Where we cook on the Costa Smeralda

The coast is short and the good houses are concentrated. We cook in Porto Cervo itself, around Romazzino and Cala di Volpe, at Liscia di Vacca and Pitrizza, in Baja Sardinia and Cannigione along the gulf, at Poltu Quatu, and down to Porto Rotondo and Portisco.

The villas here were designed by architects who cared, which usually means a kitchen that opens onto a terrace built around the granite rather than flattening it. It also means the outdoor space is the room that matters, and dinner is planned around where the light goes at eight in the evening rather than around the dining table.

What Sardinia gives us

Sardinia is not mainland Italy and its food says so. Bottarga, the cured mullet roe from Cabras that the island grates over everything and that costs what it costs for good reason. Pecorino sardo. Culurgiones, the stuffed pasta pinched shut like a wheat ear. Porceddu, suckling pig cooked slowly over myrtle wood, which is the dish for a long table.

And Vermentino di Gallura, grown in the granite hills a few kilometres from the coast, which is the wine this food was built alongside. The fish comes from the Maddalena archipelago just north. A menu from within fifty kilometres of the house is not a constraint here, it is the best option available.

A very short season

This is the shortest season of any of our destinations. The Costa Smeralda works from June to early September and then closes, properly: in October much of it is shuttered. Everything concentrates into ten or twelve weeks, and August is when the coast is at its absolute fullest.

That compression is the reason to book early here more than anywhere else we work. In August a chef for a full week is arranged months in advance, and the houses that arrange it late do not get one.

Every Dish, a Masterpiece

From sunrise breakfasts to candlelit dinners — each menu is crafted around you and cooked in your Porto Cervo kitchen.

Frequently Asked Questions

We recommend booking at least 72 hours in advance to ensure availability, especially during the peak summer season in Porto Cervo. However, we always do our best to accommodate last-minute requests.

Tell us your dates, where you are staying, how many guests and which service you have in mind. We check availability and come back with a proposal built around what you told us. Once the menu and the service are agreed, a 50% deposit confirms the booking. In peak season, get in touch as early as you can, and earlier still for a Full Time or Half Time chef across several days.

There is no single figure worth quoting: it depends on the destination, the number of guests, which service you book and the menu. Ingredients are billed separately at what they cost, with receipts. Travel beyond the areas we list for a destination, additional staff and unusually long hours are quoted on top. You will have the whole price in writing before anything is confirmed.

A chef with you through the day: breakfast, lunch and dinner, up to 13 working hours including the time spent shopping. Your chef plans the menus, does the shopping, cooks and leaves the kitchen clean, with everything built around your tastes, your routine and any dietary requirements. Groceries are billed separately at cost price, with receipts.

Two meals a day instead of three: breakfast and lunch, or breakfast and dinner, with up to 10 working hours a day including the time spent shopping. Your chef plans the menus, does the shopping, cooks and leaves the kitchen clean. Groceries are billed separately at cost price, with receipts.

Our private chef service covers private homes and villas for up to 39 guests. By law, private chef services cannot cover weddings or events for 40 guests or more, so we are unable to take on larger bookings.
